The Anoka County sheriff’s office joined forces with the county attorney’s office and MN Adult and Teen Challenge to host a series of community forums to discuss the dangers of heroin, opiates and prescription painkillers.

Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart says that while law enforcement is working to get drugs off the street, parents and communities must play a role in reducing accessibility to drugs.

The National Association of Counties recognized the county with an Achievement Award, an honor given since 1970 to counties nationwide that showcase innovative programs, according to information provided by the Anoka County attorney’s office.

The county has also implemented a prescription drug take-back program and ratcheted up the efforts of law enforcement to stop the substances’ spread.
