Sheriff James Stuart is the 17th Sheriff of Anoka County since the office was established in 1857.
James began his career with the Sheriff’s Office on February 14, 1994, as a patrol deputy and rose through the ranks by earning several promotions. He has been a Sergeant in Patrol, Justice Services, and Administrative Divisions and then served as a Lieutenant overseeing operations in the Patrol Division. He served as a Captain with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office prior to being elected as your sheriff.
He held numerous supervisory roles during his tenure with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, giving him a broad base of knowledge from which to lead the organization. He supervised the Field Training Operations Unit, the K-9 Unit, the Civil Process Unit, and the Office of Professional Standards. He was also the Honor Guard Unit Commander, as well as a S.W.A.T. Team Leader.
